Despite their popularity, there is a great deal of room for exploration into the application of artificial intelligence in order to enhance CCG gameplay and development. ![]() We focus on KRF because it is a popular video game in the tower defense genre, and highlights some of the challenges of designing appropriate PCG and playtesting algorithms for a commercial video game.Ĭollectible Card Games (CCG) are one of the most popular types of games in both digital and physical space. We also add a fourth block: automated testing via a Monte Carlo search algorithm, to ensure the generated content is playable. We then automatically create new building blocks in the style of the original game, utilizing techniques from Procedural Content Generation (PCG), and assemble them to create new levels. road maps, tower locations and monster sequences. We first analyze the three main components, or "building blocks", of the popular tower defense game Kingdom Rush: Frontiers (KRF), i.e. Because level production and testing are both time-consuming and labor-intensive, we propose and implement a framework to automate the process. Tower defense is a popular subgenre of real-time strategy game requiring detailed level design and difficulty balancing to create an enjoyable player experience. Result also shown that PCG are being used in multiple type of games, but similarly, based on the paper found, only certain types of game benefits PCG extensively such as action and platforming games while other model and genre of games have not seen much PCG application yet. ![]() The result shown that there are not specific best type of PCG method or algorithm being used instead an array of approach can be used based on what content being created. The studies had shown that PCG are being used extensively in game-related content but has seen more uses on specific type of contents rather than being used ubiquitously in all sorts of contents. This paper presents the findings of review performed in the past 5 years looking on how PCG are being applied in game-related content, whether it is from the basic paper characteristic to analyze the trends, the field of PCG itself, and the game domain of game model and game genre. However, a more specific empirical evidence on how it is being used in a game-related implementation are still lacking.
